Lets get physical...physical...

Why... hello again...

Fancy seeing you here!

Ever wished that you had your very own "Creativity Personal Trainer"?
Of course you have wished that!

For days (or weeks)...(or years...oops)...when you feel like you are stuck in a rut.
Like your creative muscles are lacking that "ripped" vigour...
When you look at inspirational images or the work of someone else's and then look at your own and feel the kind of shame only an over sized jumper can hide...

Well...Let me tell you...

If you need a referral...I suggest Natalia Milosz-Piekarska...
Within only a matter of weeks I have lost pounds of "BLAH" and have replaced it with firm and shiny (and furry/soft/glittery/gluey) "WOW"

Thanks Natalia! My automatic making has never looked so good!

I don't have any "BEFORE" to show you...how embarrassing...
But here is some "AFTER" to feast your "googly eyes" on...

Question: What do a Twig, a Shell and a Fan have in common?

Answer: See above...

Mutations of the graphite world...

CONTINUED FROM YESTERDAY'S BLOG...

It has come to our knowledge that the "jewels" that Sir David Attenborough was holding in his personal collection are in fact the most precious components of the crown of the last ruling leader of an alien territory (we are yet to receive the finer details of the exact location of this land...but we are presuming it is "far, far away...")

Sir Attenborough has commissioned a team of "experts" to recreate the crown, for it's jewels were all that remained of it's structure, in the thousand year old tomb.

Exclusive photos below!

Such colourful "gems"...

The "jewels" flow from the crown over the face. Each "gem" believed to have specific powers and as such its location on the crown protects specific parts of the individual...

The Glittery Berry over the right eye is believed to ward off "pink eye"... A common cause of death in this foreign land...far, far away...

The Sequined Flower is believed to have been a living sun dial...It's direction dictating time...

Experts have found this to be untrue however...with its direction merely representing the direction of the crown wearer...

Needles to say: Time in this land (far, far away) would have been pretty unpredictable...

On a different note:

Rock Solid!

Who's seen it?

I was mighty impressed with a lot of the work there.
Considering it is all made by visual artists who do not have a background in Gold and Silver Smithing.

My favourites?
Well...

I want a pair of Madeline Kidd's "Earrings with mixed cauchous" (yes, cauchous of the cake decorating kind...)

Similarly Dan Bell's Fimo and glitter creations took my eyes (I got them back though...and he apologised on behalf of his work)

And I couldn't help but say "love" to Anna Ephraim's little pale yellow budgie "Frank"

But all in all, everything was given a little nod of approval by moi...

Thanks for having us Vic! And thanks for the outing Natalia!
I would have got there on my own but it wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun as our little excursion...

ROCK ON!!!

Cut Up Poetry Beasts and 3D Paper Strip Models

Hi De Ho Internet peeps... and welcome to Small Object Ideation...
(a class in the Art department of RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, which "aims to shift our automatic methods of working" creatively)

(trumpet fanfare... toot toot toot toooooooot...)

Get prepared for some serious PLAY...

This special little blog represents my "trainer wheels" entry into the world of art blogging. I'm all padded up with every item of clothing I own, preparing myself for a few falls along the way to blogging success.

However... I intend to get back up after every fall.

So, if you see some bad formatting, unsuccessful uploading or other blog tragedy... just smile and relish that warm glow that comes with knowing that you are here with me, watching my technological prowess grow... baby step after baby step...

READY...STEADY.......GO!

The story begins with the lovely Natalia introducing us to a long lost friend, 'Play'. However it has been so long since we have been allowed near 'Play' that we have no idea what to do with it.

But Natalia has just the thing... Like a physiotherapist every creative individual needs, she gives us a few exercises to do to get things moving.

We are all instructed to write down 10 descriptive words on little bits of paper. We then put them into a bucket (although Natalia's notes did specifically say to put them into a hat...One persons bucket is another's hat I say...)

We then wait for the magic... There was none... Perhaps because we used a bucket... Mental note to use a hat next time.

There was however exactly 10 descriptive words for each of us to pull out of the bucket. The wonder of mathematics!!

Strangely Natalia only wanted us to pull out 5, perhaps she wanted the remaining 5 words per person for herself... word hoarding... is that something they cover on the television series Hoarders?

But then we found out that we were to arrange the words "in such a way that they form a descriptive term for a mythological beast"...

"DRAW YOUR BEAST"  roared Natalia...(she didn't actually 'roar', Natalia is actually quite sweet, but in the themes of beasts, I thought...)

But that was only the beginning... Next we were to look at these words and impose there characteristics onto strips of A3 paper. After this (we were unaware of this at this point) we were to use these A3 strips to construct a 3D model.

My first thought with both exercises was "How am I going to make paper look delicious?"

Answer: Embrace 'delicious' in an r'n'b sense... think Fergie/Black Eyed Peas with their
 d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s...lyrics

The Result: My lady beast has delicious lashes-lips-and even heart shape printed knickers visible in the mirrored floor reflection...

With my A3 strip of paper I thought first about a sensual curved undulating line...

D_E_L_I_C_I_O_U_S

It then got a couple of 'peepers' cut into it...

$2 peep anyone?

Then there was Soggy...
It was at this point that I lost any friends I may have been likely to make in the class.
Note To Self: Do not lick strips of paper in front of anyone...

SOGGY

No, this in not my spit. It seemed I did not have enough. This is water.

And then there was Furry...

Furry got all textured...
The result being a combination of furry/spiky... Much like the Araldite coated hair tufts I had to cut out of my dog's fur yesterday...
He must have been building something while we were out...

Edward 'Furry' Hands/An Evil Castle/Bart Simpson...

But then by accident 'Furry' became a lens on my camera...

hahahahaha.... Don't you just LOVE 'Play'... "Come out, Come out, Wherever you are..."

A kaleidoscope?

Araldite Offender...

GLOSS

A tiny glimmer of natural 'Gloss', just at the tip...

Not so natural 'Gloss'

Note: 'Light' is missing as it blew away in the wind when I was taking photos... Apparently TOO light it seems
